Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game

Avatar Legends is the official roleplaying game set across the eras of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. You play as young or seasoned heroes finding their place between duty and desire in a world of bending arts, acrobatics, and stubborn politicians. People love it for its heart: your crew grows, your beliefs are tested, and every win feels earned. Non-benders shine too, using training, gadgets, and guts. It welcomes first-timers and satisfies veterans, families, and anime-loving groups.

A session feels like an episode. Light banter and training, a problem that spirals, then a daring plan and a fast, cinematic showdown. Our Game Masters tune the tone you want, from goofy travel to tense Republic City intrigue or spirit world mystery. It works for one-shots, ongoing campaigns, birthdays, and company teams, in person or online. Ready to explore ideas and dates? Browse our Game Masters.

How to play Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game

You roll two six-sided dice and add an approach that fits what you are doing, such as Focus or Passion. Moves are triggered by the story, from defending a friend to tricking a rival. On a 10 or higher, you achieve what you wanted. On a 7 to 9, you succeed but with a cost or choice. On a 6 or lower, the situation shifts, and the Game Master introduces new trouble. Action scenes operate as exchanges where you select techniques to inflict conditions, protect allies, or shift the balance.

Players bring a character playbook, a bending or martial style, and a sense of what matters to them. You define connections within the team and the principles that guide you. The Game Master provides the world, NPCs, stakes, rules support and safety tools, and keeps the camera moving. One-shots favour quick builds, a tight mission, and a striking set piece. Campaigns add downtime, evolving bonds, and larger arcs. Playing online is straightforward with video chat and a shared tabletop; see the overview of online play platforms.

Common questions

Do we need to know the shows or the rules to get started?

No prior knowledge is required. A professional Game Master introduces the setting and teaches the rules as you play, at a comfortable pace. The system is light and conversation-driven, allowing you to focus on choices and teamwork rather than memorising mechanics. Fans of the shows will recognise familiar cultures and themes, but newcomers will fit right in. You can create a character quickly with a guided questionnaire, or start with a ready-to-play option if you prefer to dive straight into the story.

What group size is ideal and how long does a session last?

For Avatar Legends, 2 to 5 players works well. Four players is the ideal number for lively scenes and steady spotlight. Duos are great for mentor and student stories or a detective-style pair. Sessions typically run for 120 to 180 minutes. A compact 2-hour one-shot covers all the key moments, while 3 hours allows for more character interactions and a bigger finale. With five players, expect slightly longer action exchanges and short breaks between scenes to keep everyone refreshed.

How is Avatar Legends different from D&D?

Avatar Legends is more narrative-driven than D&D. You select a playbook that reflects your role and values, rather than a lengthy list of class abilities. Moves are resolved with a single roll that stems from the story, allowing scenes to progress without tactical grids or measuring distances. Combat occurs as exchanges where you choose techniques and impose conditions, keeping the action swift and character-focused. Progression is based on tested beliefs and relationships rather than treasure. It is simple to learn, yet still provides significant choices and teamwork.

Can I play a non-bender and still be helpful?

Absolutely. Non-benders excel through training, clever tools, and courage. Think martial artists, inventors, strategists, or a quick-witted diplomat. Techniques like disarming, creating openings, or protecting friends are just as important as raw power. A professional Game Master designs challenges that reward both benders and non-benders, from tense negotiations to chases and creative stunts. You will have equal opportunity and meaningful ways to influence the story, whether you carry a boomerang, a toolkit, or simply a sharp mind.

In which eras can we set our story?

You can set your story in the eras of Aang or Korra, or even earlier, like Kyoshi or Roku. Each era offers a unique flavour, from the intrigue of Republic City to road trips in the Earth Kingdom or mysteries in the Spirit World. Let the Game Master know the vibe you’re after, and they will prepare suitable locations, NPCs, and stakes. If you already have a favourite era or concept, you can browse available Game Masters and mention it when you get in touch.

Is it appropriate for children and groups with varying levels of experience?

Yes. The game features clear playbooks and straightforward moves, allowing new and younger players to join without any stress. A professional Game Master adjusts the tone and stakes to suit your group, ensuring the action remains exciting but not grim, and employs safety tools to monitor comfort as you progress. It also accommodates mixed experience tables well, as scenes emphasise teamwork and character choices. To choose a facilitator whose style aligns with your group, see GM playstyles.

    Danny

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a fantastic job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but see it as honest criticism. Cheers, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varying levels of experience, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I really appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed from our less experienced players while also keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thanks!
