Cyberpunk TTRPG · Cyberpunk Roleplaying Game

Cyberpunk

Cyberpunk immerses you in Night City and the sprawl, where style meets survival. You are Edgerunners, freelancers navigating between gang territories and corporate towers. The gameplay emphasises bold choices, messy consequences, and sharp-edged characters. Fans appreciate the tense action, neon-noir atmosphere, and complex social interactions. The current edition, Cyberpunk RED, sets the scene in a post-war rebuild, featuring chrome, netrunning, and street-level intrigue.

What can you expect from a session? Your crew scouts a target, meets fixers, bypasses scanners, and quickly adapts when plans shift. It’s perfect for newcomers seeking guided, cinematic play, as well as veterans who enjoy tactical options and moral dilemmas. Ideal for one-shots, birthdays, and teams that thrive on collaboration under pressure. Check out available Game Masters to find the right fit for your style.

How to play Cyberpunk

Cyberpunk has a straightforward core. Roll a d10, add a stat and a skill, and aim to meet or exceed a target number. On your turn, you describe your actions, and the Game Master will tell you what to roll or what it will cost. Combat is fast and deadly. Initiative, cover, and autofire are important. Damage is determined by weapon dice. Armour reduces hits and degrades over time. Critical injuries heighten the stakes. Hacking and drones follow the same speak-and-roll mechanics, with clear choices.

You bring a character concept. Choose a role such as Solo, Netrunner, or Fixer, and embrace a taste for risk. A professional Game Master can provide pregenerated characters if you want to dive in quickly. They supply maps, handouts, and the city's factions. One-shots concentrate on a single Job with a clear beginning and an exit strategy. Campaigns track cash, cyberware, and reputation across arcs, so your choices have lasting effects. Play can occur in person or online with shared sheets and maps. Discover how sessions operate online on popular platforms.

Common questions

Do I need to know the rules or the lore of Night City?

Not at all. A professional Game Master will teach you the essentials as you play. You describe what your Edgerunner attempts, and the GM calls for tests using a d10 with your stat and skill against a difficulty. Gunfights are quick and perilous, but you will receive clear choices and guidance. Prebuilt characters are available, or you can bring a concept and choose a Role. The GM manages the details so you can focus on bold decisions.

Which edition of Cyberpunk do you run?

Most bookings use Cyberpunk RED, the current edition set in the Time of the Red after the corporate wars. It is streamlined and keeps the whole crew engaged in every scene. If your group prefers the classic Cyberpunk 2020 feel, that can be arranged with advance notice. Some Game Masters also offer v3 upon request. See available Game Masters to find someone who runs your preferred edition.

What sets Cyberpunk apart from D&D?

There is no magic or dungeons. It is near-future crime and survival. Characters use broad Roles and a detailed skill list, not fantasy classes and spells. Guns are lethal, armour degrades as it takes hits, and planning, legwork, and contacts are just as important as firefights. Advancement is gritty and incremental. You improve skills, chrome, and gear rather than gaining large pools of hit points. Heists and negotiations take the place of treasure hunts.

What group size and session length are most effective?

Cyberpunk shines with 2 to 6 players over 3 to 4 hours. With 2 or 3 players, expect tight, surgical jobs and character-focused scenes. With 5 or 6, the GM allows for more planning time and larger set pieces. A one-shot typically covers a full Job from setup to getaway. In a campaign, your crew’s income, chrome, and reputation grow over time, meaning choices in one mission resonate into the next.

How do hacking and netrunning work at the table?

In Cyberpunk RED, netrunning occurs simultaneously with the actions of other players. The Netrunner takes quick turns within the same round, scanning, breaching defences, and taking control of systems while the team operates on the ground. This keeps everyone engaged and maintains a fast pace. If you ask for Cyberpunk 2020, the GM can modify older NET rules to ensure the crew still shares the spotlight. You can expect straightforward references, visual aids, and clear results for hacks.

Is the content quite dark, and can we establish limits?

Cyberpunk explores adult themes, violence, corporate oppression, and body modification. You set the boundaries. Before play, the Game Master checks the tone and uses safety tools to ensure everyone feels comfortable. You can request gritty street-level hardship, stylish action with less graphic detail, or anything in between. If tone matters to you, check out GM playstyles to find a suitable match. The city is unforgiving, but your group determines the focus.

What players think

  • It was an amazing experience for the girls! Thank you, Marie! You were incredibly well prepared, the girls were captivated by your every word, and it felt like you had been playing together for years! Looking forward to seeing you next time!

    Annick

  • Tom was fantastic! He was really great with the kids and patient with his explanations. It was a wonderful evening and definitely worth doing again! The children asked the next day when we would be doing this again.

    Danny

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a fantastic job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but see it as honest criticism. Cheers, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varying levels of experience, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I really appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed from our less experienced players while also keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thanks!

    Casey

    The Merry Meeple

  • The game was really engaging. I got a game as a gift for my boyfriend, who is very keen on it, and he was very pleased and appreciated Leonardo's professionalism. I don't have much experience with DnD, but I found the game quite straightforward and enjoyable.

    Marina

  • Baptiste was a fantastic GM who adapted seamlessly to our group and helped us move forward in this one-shot. However, there was one issue with the character sheets provided, as they were not complete or clear. Some of the French translations were quite rough. For instance, our cleric was missing spells, including a healing spell, even though they were meant to have some.

    Pierre

  • Rachel was fantastic; my daughter and her friends left their game saying it was the most fun they’d ever had, and my daughter wanted to sign up for another game with her straight away. She was friendly, and her approach allowed the players to fully immerse themselves in the game by giving them control over how they wanted their actions to unfold. I would definitely work with her again.
