Exalted

Exalted is high-powered mythic fantasy where you play champions, outlaws, or rulers standing up to gods and empires. Big stories and sweeping emotions are the focus. You leap from rooftop to rooftop, charm courts, and bargain with dragons. Our Game Masters spotlight stunts and bold decisions, making the table feel like martial arts cinema crossed with timeless myth. It welcomes first-timers as much as veterans who enjoy deep options. Planning a birthday or team event? A professional Game Master keeps the pace clear and everyone engaged. Meet them here: find a Game Master.

At the table, scenes unfold like chapters of a grand drama: palace intrigue at noon, a demon hunt at dusk, then a skyship chase under the stars. You choose the tone, bright and heroic or tense and tragic. The Game Master brings Creation to life with vivid characters and clear stakes, then asks, what do you do? It is perfect for a single night of dazzling feats, or a long campaign where your circle bends history around your ideals, whether in person or online.

How to play Exalted

Actions use pools of ten-sided dice based on your traits and skills. Roll the handful, count 7s and higher as successes, and aim to meet or exceed the difficulty. More challenging tasks require additional successes. Charms are your hero’s techniques, powered by Essence. They can add dice, provide protection, or transform the battlefield with dramatic, cinematic moves. Describe an impressive stunt and you may earn bonuses. In combat, you create openings, then strike for a finishing blow when the moment is right.

You bring a solid character concept, a few d10s, and a readiness to think big. Our Game Master provides pre-generated heroes or assists you in creating one, along with safety tools, clear rules summaries, and an engaging starting scenario. Online sessions utilise shared dice rollers, maps, and music, ensuring smooth remote play. Interested in virtual options? Check out our guide to online play platforms.

For a one-shot, expect a concise story with quick character builds or pre-gens, a clear objective, and rules taught as you play. For a campaign, the group delves into politics, ancient ruins, sorcery, and rival Exalts, with time to claim a city or transform a nation. Progression introduces new Charms, allies, and artefacts, and your decisions resonate across sessions.

Common questions

Do I need to learn the rules before we start playing?

You can sit down and start playing straight away. A professional Game Master explains the basics in just a few minutes and guides your choices so no one gets lost. Exalted uses pools of ten-sided dice. You roll a group of d10s, counting 7 through 10 as successes, and compare to the difficulty. Your powers, known as Charms, twist outcomes and allow you to perform wild maneuvers. For your first sessions, the GM can provide cheat sheets and prebuilt characters upon request. Essence is also an option if you prefer a streamlined start without losing the mythic feel.

Which edition will we use, Essence or 3rd edition?

We run the edition that suits your group. Essence is streamlined, quick to teach, and keeps every Exalt type on a similar level, making it great for one-shots and mixed experience tables. Third Edition is more in-depth, featuring robust combat with withering and decisive attacks, extensive Charm sets, and more complex options. Second and First Editions are nostalgic choices available upon request. Before booking, you can discuss tone and edition with the GM and see what they offer. What sets Exalted apart from D&D?

Exalted starts at a demigod scale. You do not grind from level one. You begin with dramatic powers and social influence. The rules use dice pools of d10s rather than a single d20 roll. The game rewards vivid descriptions with bonuses, so acrobatics and clever words are just as important as numbers. Social influence and intrigue have clear mechanics, not just roleplay alone. Combat is cinematic and tactical without needing strict grids. If you know D&D, the transition feels natural. A GM will translate familiar concepts like classes and spells into Charms and roles.

What group size is ideal for Exalted?

Two to six players is ideal. Three to five players is the sweet spot for Exalted’s teamwork and spotlight. Duos work well for focused stories about partners or rivals. Six can create a lively atmosphere, and a professional GM will pace scenes so everyone gets their moment to shine. Essence accommodates larger tables a bit more easily. The Third Edition benefits from a medium-sized group, as its combat and influence systems allow each hero time to act. Let the GM know if you prefer faster action or more political intrigue. They will adjust scene size and complexity to suit your group.

Is it appropriate for kids or teens? What age groups?

Yes. Exalted’s tone ranges from bright heroics to darker drama, and the GM adjusts content to fit your family or youth group. For younger players, Essence is recommended and works well for ages 10 and up, with simplified Charms and fewer moving parts. Third Edition suits teens who enjoy deeper rules, typically from 13 years old. Violence is stylised, not gory, and romance lines are set by the table. The GM uses safety tools, checks topics in advance, and keeps language and themes age-appropriate.

Does Exalted run smoothly online?

Absolutely. Online Exalted plays smoothly with shared dice rollers for d10 pools, quick trackers for Initiative and anima, and searchable Charm references. The GM uses theatre of the mind or light maps for chases and battles, so stunts still shine on voice or video. Handouts cover character moves and setting lore. Music and safety tools keep the flow clear. If you want to compare virtual platforms and what each supports, read our short guide here: online play options.

    Danny

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a fantastic job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but see it as honest criticism. Cheers, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varying levels of experience, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I really appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed from our less experienced players while also keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thanks!
