The Witcher Role-Playing Game
Step onto the Continent with the licensed Witcher tabletop RPG from R. Talsorian Games. You track monsters born of curses and folklore, weigh coin against conscience, and live with the consequences. People appreciate its grounded tone and limited magic, where research, supplies, and local rumours matter. A professional Game Master frames contracts that feel like they’ve been pulled from a tavern notice board, full of vivid NPCs, tangled politics, and dangers that respect silver, oil, and good preparation.
A session feels like a grim fairy tale turned crime scene. You interview villagers, sift through clues at the edge of a swamp, bargain with a priest, set bait, then confront what lurks in the dark. It suits adults, Witcher fans, and any group craving monster hunting and tough choices. Great for beginners and veterans, one-shots or campaigns, in person or online. Meet our Game Masters here.
How to play The Witcher Role-Playing Game
At the table, you describe your actions and then roll a ten-sided die when the outcome is uncertain. Add a relevant attribute and skill. You need to beat a set difficulty or an enemy’s roll to succeed. Combat is tactical and detailed: choose your actions, attack or cast a Sign, defend or reposition. Armour reduces damage, so preparation is key. The Game Master tracks consequences and escalates threats when plans go awry.
You bring a character concept, a motive, and boundaries you do not want crossed. You might be a witcher, mage, bard, doctor, or scout, human or nonhuman. Our Game Master provides the contract, clues, maps, and safety tools, along with assistance for gear, potions, and Signs. One-shots focus on a single hunt in 3 to 4 hours, making them easy to join. Campaigns introduce long-term scars, rivals, coin, and reputation that carry forward.

Common questions
Do I need Witcher lore or the rules to participate?
No prior knowledge is needed. A professional Game Master will teach you the core mechanics in minutes: roll a 10-sided die, add an attribute and a skill, and compare it to a target number or an opponent’s roll. If you’re familiar with the games or books, that’s fantastic, but newcomers will fit right in. You’ll receive a brief overview of the Continent, monster weaknesses, and how Signs and alchemy function. Pre-generated characters are available, or the GM can assist you in creating one quickly.
Can I play a witcher? Does the group need one?
You can play a witcher, but it is not necessary. The rules accommodate various roles that excel during hunts, such as mage, doctor, man-at-arms, bard, criminal, priest, or craftsman. The GM adjusts each contract to ensure that a mixed party can succeed. If you opt for the witcher path, you will receive guidance on gear, oils, bombs, and Signs to enhance your toolkit. If there isn't a witcher in the group, research, silver, traps, and negotiation can still lead to victory.
How perilous is combat in this game?
Fights are intense. Strikes can cripple limbs, cause bleeding, and force tough decisions. Armour absorbs damage but deteriorates, and even a seasoned warrior can fall if caught off guard. What keeps you alive is preparation, the right oil or bomb, terrain, and knowing when to negotiate or withdraw. A skilled Game Master maintains high tension without catching you off guard. If you prefer a more brutal survival experience or a gentler approach, you can choose a GM whose style suits you on GM playstyles.
How does The Witcher RPG differ from D&D?
It is not a level-based power climb. Advancement is skill-driven, healing is slower, and money and supplies are important. Magic is rare and risky, so steel, alchemy, and cleverness carry significant weight. Adventures feel like investigations that lead to a decisive confrontation, rather than a slog through endless combat rooms. Monsters often resist ordinary weapons, and social choices influence outcomes. If you're after a different vibe, compare other systems on all game systems.
What magic and Signs are available to us?
Witcher Signs are quick, practical techniques such as a shove, a ward, a flame burst, or a charm. They are accessible to trained witchers and can change the course of a fight, but they do not substitute for careful planning. Full spellcasting is also available. Mages and priests can prepare potent effects and rituals, with limitations and consequences that ensure magic remains rare. Alchemy and crafting play a significant role in the game. You can brew potions and decoctions, coat blades with oils, and create bombs.
What occurs in a typical session?
A session typically begins with a contract or a rumour. You engage with locals, examine a scene, and formulate a theory about what you are up against. Then, you gather what you need, such as ingredients, silver, and bait, and devise a plan. The showdown rewards careful preparation and strategic positioning. Decisions also carry weight after the fight, as you navigate payment, oaths, and consequences. One-shots condense a complete hunt into roughly 3 to 4 hours, while longer arcs leave lasting scars and affect your reputation.
Which edition or books will the GM be using?
You will use the official The Witcher Tabletop Role-Playing Game by R. Talsorian Games. There is one core edition. A professional Game Master may incorporate selected official supplements when useful, such as expanded monsters, magic options, or crafting rules. All necessary handouts, gear lists, and safety tools are provided. If your group prefers to keep it straightforward, the GM can run with just the core rules and a simplified equipment list.
